Mischievous and agile, the lemur is one of Madagascar's emblematic animals. Easily recognizable by its long black and white ringed tail, it lives in groups in forests and spends a large part of its time perched in trees. Its bouncing gait and peculiar cry make it a fascinating animal to observe.
The baby lemur, clinging to its mother's belly or back, gradually learns to climb and move among the branches. Surprisingly, unlike most primates, females often dominate lemur groups. They feed mainly on fruits, leaves and sometimes insects, playing an important role in forest regeneration by dispersing seeds.
